No, with refacing you can choose between painted finishes or stains on a multitude of woods:

Is refacing just wrapping the doors in veneers?
No, while veneers aren’t inherently bad, they get a bad wrap in our industry as a cheaper material.
They’re actually not and they’re more difficult to install.
Regardless, we use solid hardwoods on the face frames and sides of your cabinets, glued in place with an industrial adhesive.
All of the doors and drawer fronts on your project are custom, American made in South Dakota (brand new).
